NGOs: Vehicle for Money Laundering – SCUML Boss

By SaharaReporters, New York Angela Nworgu, Head of the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has revealed that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) now serve as a conduit for money laundering and sponsorship of criminal activities. Ms. Nworgu was speaking yesterday at the annual seminar for Designated Non-Financial Institutions (DNFIs) with the theme “Strategic partnership Amongst DNFIs for Effective Implementation of AML/CFT Regime in Nigeria” at the EFCC Academy in Karu, Abuja. Drawing on research by the Financial Action Task Force, she warned that that money launderers “who use NGOs to carry out layering of stolen wealth through several countries…to disguise the actual origin of the money do not mind losing 40% of the total amount in the process, because it is money gotten from illegitimate means”. Ms. Nworgu further stated that the essence of the seminar was to expose compliance officers to their...

5000 DEVALUATION MADNESS

5000 DEVALUATION MADNESS By Tola Adeniyi Mallam Lamido Sanusi Lamido, the Governor of Central Bank, is a first class brain. He is intelligent, highly cerebral and hugely eloquent. But the affairs of the apex bank of a country should not be left to the whims and caprices of a Robin Crusoe.!   Only God can tell what exactly went into the riotous and roaring mind of Mallam Sanusi forcing him to conjure a crazy idea of imposing a 5000 Naira note on Nigerians while his masters in Britain still hang on to their 50 Pound note as their highest denomination and Canada and the US would never foolishly go beyond their 100 Dollar highest denomination!   What is the compelling reason to make currency change in whatever form a priority now that our economy is crumbling in the face of the existing choking devaluation and resultant inflation?   How does Sanusi want to combine and confuse Cashless policy with printing huge cash?   Why does anybody want to kill this co...

He wondered how a man accused of committing murder of a prominent woman would be treated as a folk hero by a part of the country represented by a section of the crowd in the court premises. Seated 5th from left is Sergeant Barnabas Mshelia (aka Sergeant Rogers), who shot and killed Alhaja Kudirat Abiola on 4 June, 1996. ITS IS THE DAY FOR RON PAUL INSURGENCY

It's D-Day for Ron Paul's 2012 Insurgency By Chris Good | ABC OTUS News Today will mark the end, or the ultimate success, of Ron Paul 's delegate insurgency. After a primary campaign in which Paul's team focused on the most ignored parts of the GOP process, winning delegates in overlooked caucus states and organizing around delegate votes at state conventions, Paul supporters will have their last chance today to ensure an official presence for Paul at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. The Nebraska GOP convention - the last in which delegates will be up for grabs - will offer a long shot at putting Paul over a critical threshold. Paul is on the cusp of winning enough support to secure a 15-minute speaking slot and to have his name placed on the ballot of official candidates for the nomination at the Republican National Convention in August. Mainstream Republicans would blanch at such a prospect, given that Paul's vie...

Text of the proclamation speech by the late M.K.O. Abiola on Saturday, June 11, 1994, announcing the formation of a Government of National Unity (GNU) at Epetedo, Lagos

PEOPLE of Nigeria , exactly one year ago, you turned out in your millions to vote for me, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria . But politicians in uniform, who call themselves soldiers but are more devious than any civilian would want to be, deprived you of your God-given right to be ruled by the President you had yourselves elected. These soldier-politicians introduced into our body politic, a concept hitherto unknown to our political lexicography, something strangely called the “annulment” of an election perceived by all to have been the fairest, cleanest and most peaceful ever held in our nation. Since that abominable act of naked political armed robbery occurred, I have been constantly urged by people of goodwill, both in Nigeria and abroad, to put the matter back into the people’s hands and get them to actualise the mandate they gave me at the polls. But mindful of the need to ensure that peace continu...
